Empuriabrava (in Catalan) or Ampuriabrava (in Spanish) on the beautiful Costa Brava in the North East of Spain, close to the French border, was originally built on a swamp and was transformed into a residential marina with navigable waterways and a coastal holiday town. The building started in 1967 and was completed in 1975. Empuriabrava forms part of the municipality of Castelló d'Empuries in Catalonia and has a summer population of around 80,000 people.
Ampuriabrava is easily reachable by car, plane, train or boat. The international airports of Girona Costa Brava and Perpignan in France are only a 45 minute’s drive away and it is 160 km by highway from the International Barcelona El Prat Airport. The AVE / TGV high speed train station of Figueras is only 15 Km away and has frequent high speed train connections to the rest of Europe. It takes only a few minutes by car to reach the entrance of the AP2 / E15 highway which gives direct access to the main European highways. By boat Empuriabrava is only 3 nautical miles from the Natural Marine Park Cap de Creus and its beautiful anchorages, 12 nautical miles to the Medes Islands a diver’s paradise and 160 nautical miles from the Balearic Islands.
The residential Marina of Empuriabrava is unique and is often referred to as the Venice of Spain because most of its residential area is built on and around a system of navigable seawater canals open to the Mediterranean Sea.

In Empuriabrava you can also find many small private ports alongside the canals where you can moor smaller boats. Centrally located there is a large public marina before the bridges with access for yachts up to 25 meter length and a maximum draft of 3 meters. Alongside the public Marina of Empuriabrava are some charming fishermen´s houses and nice 2 or 3 bedroom sea or harbor view apartments and smaller flats or studios for sale or rent. These properties are all situated within view or within a short walking distance to the mooring of your yacht in the harbor and to the main Ampuriabrava shopping and restaurant areas in the town center.

This was recently purchased by the Crown Prince of Dubai, who now regularly jumps the Ampuria skies enjoying the beautiful views of the Pyrenean mountains, the villas and houses with swimming pools around the canals of Empuriabrava and Roses-Santa Margarita and the world renowned Bay of Rosas.
The property market in Empuriabrava can be divided into five categories:
- The most expensive objects are the exclusive villas with private mooring and pool situated alongside the canals. They belong to the most expensive objects at the Costa Brava and range between 400,000 and 5,000,000 Euros.
- The villas without a private mooring or a canal access are put on sale between 300,000 to 1,500,000 Euros.
- You can buy a town or “fisherman” house alongside the canals with own mooring between 200,000 and 600,000 Euros.
- The fourth group includes apartments with canal access and a mooring, which sell between 150,000 and 400,000 Euro.
- It is possible to purchase different kinds of apartments, which range between 50,000 and 400,000 Euros without private mooring but with nice sea views and within walking distance to your boat in the Marina of Empuriabrava or in one of the smaller marinas alongside the canals.
